Bald Eagle and Juvenile, 6/8/17, Foss Reservoir - Framingham

The video below shows how an adult bald eagle at Foss Reservoir flew onto a branch below the nest and was mobbed by grackles. The juvenile in the nest, shown above, became very active at this point, flapping its wings and hopping in the nest. It might have been a reaction to a breeze which juveniles use to exercise their wings, but as I watched at the time, after waiting quite a long while for an adult eagle to come to the nest, it looked to me like the juvenile was jumping up and down, throwing a tantrum, because the parent didn't come right to the nest with its lunch. The audio comes on briefly, starting at about 2:37, and you can hear the juvenile calling. (The audio appears out of sync because of the distance.) The adult was eventually forced off its perch when a grackle came within pecking distance. I saw the eagle leave the perch but I didn't see where it went. I'm not sure if it went to the nest or whether its mate came in the meantime but when I next looked at the nest an adult was tearing up a fish and the adult and juvenile were sharing the meal. The adult ate some of it and the juvenile also took morsels from the adult's beak.
